This week we are focusing on a great talent from Alaska – Chris Talley.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Chris Talley, I was born July 27, 1997, in Anchorage, Alaska. I was adopted right at birth and have been living with my adopted family my whole life in Juneau. My hobbies are making music, spending time with my friends, and video games.
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
It started when I was very young, I mostly had a keen knack for memorizing words at a very young age, which transitioned into taking up instruments, Dancing, acting, then singing/rapping. Being the youngest in my family I was always hearing different kinds of music all over the house, so when I was 10-11 years old I tried writing my own songs thinking, “yeah that’s something I can do, that’s cool!” It wasn’t until 2016 until I wrote and put out my first couple of songs out on YouTube/SoundCloud!
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
Since I come from a older family I wasn’t up to date on everything when I was a kid, my first exposure to music was through rock/pop music with The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Simon, Rolling Stones, Backstreet Boys, and *NSYNC
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
I like to switch up genres sometimes so my music can be a bit all over the place style wise, but the number one thing would be that I enjoy making love songs, love can truly heal the world, I would describe my sound as uplifting, tender, and respectful.
What music have you recorded and released to date?
I have released a couple of solo tracks, and tracks where I’ve collaborated with my good friend Air Jazz, and Killah Priest of the Wutang clan, I have a bunch of stuff recorded and ready to release when I feel the time is right.
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?
Very much so. I’m inspired by other artists music, mostly in the lyric sense, and when I’m making my beats. I’ve been going back to my roots listening to The Beatles, Lots of 50 cent, Jungle, and the son of the Late great Nate Dogg, Inhale (lots of Nate Dogg too).
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to not only put Alaska music on the map, but to hopefully become an all around entertainer, make money for my friends, family, and community, and to also open a recording/entertainment studio in my hometown Juneau for all artists of all the arts to come through, record, do podcasts/photoshoots, and hone their skills with whatever they want to do. Everyone deserves to follow their dreams, and I want to help whoever I can to achieve them.
