Artist Feature: Wavy James

Emerging from the digital underground with a renewed sense of purpose, Wavy James is an R&B artist aiming to bring raw emotion back to the forefront of modern music. Drawing inspiration from late-night thoughts, relationships, and personal growth, his sound sits comfortably alongside the introspective wave of contemporary R&B while maintaining a distinctly personal edge.

Having first experimented with music back in 2014 through casual SoundCloud covers, Wavy James has now stepped into a more focused phase of his career. His debut single, “Jasmyn Interlude,” marks a clear introduction to his artistic identity — intimate, reflective, and emotionally driven.

Influenced by artists such as Bryson Tiller, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and Drake, Wavy James blends atmospheric production with honest storytelling, creating music designed for those quiet, introspective moments.

With plans to steadily release new material and build towards a full mixtape later this year, Wavy James is positioning himself as one to watch in the evolving R&B landscape.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I go by Wavy James, an R&B artist focused on bringing real emotion back into music. I’ve been around the internet for years building my identity, but I’m just now stepping into music seriously. My sound is rooted in real life experiences, especially love, heartbreak, and growth. I make music for those late night moments when everything hits you at once.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I first started back in 2014 just doing covers on SoundCloud for fun. I wasn’t taking it serious at the time, it was just something I enjoyed. But I always had that love for music in me. Earlier this year, I started making original songs again and that passion really came back, this time with purpose.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

I grew up on a mix of 90s and early 2000s R&B, so I was always around real music. As I got older, artists like Chris Brown, Drake, and Justin Bieber were heavy in my rotation. Then later on, Bryson Tiller and PARTYNEXTDOOR really shaped how I look at music emotionally and sonically.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

I’d describe it as emotional, late night R&B. It’s the type of music you play when you’re thinking about someone, going through something, or just sitting with your thoughts. It’s very personal and meant to make you feel something real.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

Right now I’ve officially released my debut single “Jasmyn Interlude.” It’s my introduction as an artist and really sets the tone for everything I’m about to bring moving forward.

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment and do they influence your work?

I still listen to a lot of Bryson Tiller, Drake, and PARTYNEXTDOOR. That era of music really stuck with me. They definitely influence the emotion and vibe of what I create, but I always make sure to keep my sound personal to my own experiences.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

I’d say Bryson Tiller or PARTYNEXTDOOR. They both understand that emotional, late night sound I connect with, and I feel like we could create something real together.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m focused on consistently dropping singles and visuals to build momentum and grow my catalog. I’m working toward releasing a full mixtape around the fall. Overall, I just want to keep building something real and bring that feeling back into R&B.
